Style, simplicity, and repetition

Returning to my studio after a three-day stretch of garden touring with the Virginia Society of Landscape Designers, and there are ideas leaping at my fingertips.  There’s so much energy when creative people get together.   I’m looking forward to the next get-together and sharing some of the ideas this trip has generated.

This is part of one of the gardens we saw, a perfect demonstration of the power of simplicity and repetition.  The Lagerstroemia x fauriei ‘Townhouse’ is a sparse flowerer, but with bark like that, it brings much more to the garden than transient fluff.  The dappled sunlight echoes the patches of older bark on the trees and the bright-as-coin leaves of the caladiums and flowers of the Lantana.  Elegance doesn’t need to shout.
